BioClot GmbH Company Profile

Bioclot (Pty.) Ltd. was founded in 1985 in Windhoek, Namibia

In the beginning the purpose of the company was the collection of Foetal Bovine Serum.
In 1995 an independent subsidiary was established in Germany.
Since 2001 Bioclot, has been acting as a GmbH and is located in a small village in lower Bavaria.

Bioclot collects Foetal Bovine Serum in South America, European countries and Australia and has been an active player in the life science arena for the last several decades supplying quality cell culture products to major research institutes, pharmaceutical companies working in biomedical research, medical product treating viral diseases, toxicity testing of drugs and cosmetics and with other pharmaceutical veterinary and diagnostic products as well as vaccine producers.

Since 2005 BioClot has had a joint co-operation with Serana in Bunbury, Australia. Together this group aims to provide a personalised customer service characterised by flexibility and efficiency in the supply of high quality sera products to research, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies world-wide.

Serana supplies bovine sera products sourced from Australian donor herds or "export-registered" abattoirs. Complete documentation is provided certifying each batch of serum from collection through processing, testing and delivery. This assures the customer of a high quality product.

Besides the main product Foetal Calf Sera, Calf Serum is also widely used industrially and is available as either Newborn Calf Serum or as Adult Bovine Serum.
It can be used as an alternative to Foetal Bovine Serum for a range of established cell lines and primary strains but not for all. Empirical testing would be the best approach to determine the efficacy for a particular cell line.

There are five technical and five commercial employees at Serana, Australia.
In Germany a ten-headed team is responsible for the import and export of the products as well as for the sale of related products, such as powdered media, antibiotics, enzymes for tissue culture and adjuvants.
